Search highlights

Epiq Discovery provides two types of highlights, default highlights and persistent highlights. The following sections explain the differences between these highlights.

Default highlights

Default highlights appear in the NATIVE, IMAGE, and TEXT viewers in the Document List when you search for documents by entering a term or phrase in the Search box and then open a resulting document. Additionally, if you search for terms within a document using the Content Search pane, those terms also appear in the default highlight color. When you search using the Search box and the system highlights the matching terms, the system automatically selects the Search Box Terms check box in the Content Search pane to indicate that the highlighted terms are based on the Search box query. To modify the color of the Default highlight, refer to  Modify review settings and highlights for more information.

  • Metadata search using field names is not supported in highlights. If the search term contains a combination of metadata and text, the system highlights only the text portion.

  • When you do a fuzzy search, the system ignores the fuzzy search and highlights the supplied term only. For example, when you supply ratin~1, the system ignores the fuzzy search characters (~1) and highlights the term "ratin".

  • When you search for specific terms in the following text fields, the system highlights those terms in the corresponding TEXT viewer.

    • Extracted Text

    • OCR Text

    • Summary Text

    • Transcribed Text

    • Translated Text

For example, if you search for OCR_Text(contract), the system highlights the word contract in the OCR Text viewer of the returned documents.

Persistent highlights

If you set persistent highlights (Responsive Color, Privilege Color, and Global) in , the supplied terms appear highlighted in the associated color when they occur in any document. In the Native or Image Viewer, persistent highlights appear when you click Content Search . To specify persistent highlight terms and modify the colors of persistent highlights, refer to  Modify review settings and highlights.
